One Year in Mission Plus (OYIM+) is a combined initiative of the General Conference Youth Department & Mission to the Cities Initiative, Lake Union Youth Department & Public Campus Ministries, and the Center for Adventist Ministry to Public University Students (CAMPUS).
It combines two very important GC programs: One Year in Mission and Urban Centers of Influence.
Two unique elements make One Year in Mission (OYiM) different from other mission endeavors by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. First, it brings together groupsof young adultsto tackle a mission challenge and opportunity together as one unit. Secondly, the specific focus of the mission is the cities of the world.
The Urban Centers of Influence (UCI) establishes centers in communities—especially urban areas with high concentrations of unreached people groups—for the purpose of implementing Christ’s method of reaching people. These urban centers are established in cities that have populations of more than 100,000 people. Unique ministry and mission approaches are implemented to reach the unchurched communities.
One Year in Mission+ brings together these two initiatives: OYiM and UCI. For 20 years, the Center for Adventist Ministry to Public University Students (CAMPUS) has trained hundreds of young adults and established church fellowships on college and university towns across the world. This model has successfully withstood the test of time. Here are some points that make it extremely compelling:
- It empowers young adults to be leaders
- It develops long-term, self-sustaining ministry opportunities
- It effectively reaches unchurched people groups
- It blends the ministry of church leadership and laypeople
- It retains Adventist young people and strengthens their faith
- It can be globally reproducible
Below are the sites where the program will be taking place. Applicants will have the option to select their preference, but assignments will be established in August 2020 after Bible Boot Camp.
